Nämä kuvat ovatkin jo kuukauden takaa, kun pääsin Arabian tehdas kierrokselle Lei-kattausillan yhteydessä. Keramiikka on aina kiehtonut minua ja tehtaalla oli kiva päästä ihailemaan Arabia-astioiden tuotatoprosessin eri vaiheita sekä tutustumaan tehtaan kiinnostavaan historiaan ja sen tarinoihin. Tehtaan historia huokuu sen seinistä sekä siitä vuosien tuomasta ammattitaidosta ja osaamisesta, jonka sen menneet ja nykyiset tekijät ovat luoneet. Kameralleni tallentui lähinnä kuvia yksinkertaisuudessaan kiehtovista rosoisista muoteista ja polttoa odottavista lasittamattomista valkoisista astioista.
Tehdaskierroksella erityisesti Arabia Memories -astiat herättivät huomioni muotoineen ja sävyineen jälleen kerran. Olen jo muutaman vuoden ihastellut Arabia Memories-sarjaa, varsinkin kaunista Michael Schilkinin kaadinta jonka hankinta on yhä toivelistallani. Arabia Memories sarjaa otettiin uuteen pientuotantoon kun niiden yhä toimintakuntoiset vanhat muotit löydettiin 2010 Arabian tehtaan remontin yhteydessä umpeen muuratun huoneen ovien takaa. Sarjan esineet on suunniteltu 1930-1940 -luvuilla ja ne ovat olleet alkuperäistuotannossa 1950-luvulle saakka. Vuodesta 2011 lähtien astioita on valmistettu käsin Arabian tehtaan Pro Arte -osastolla ja pienen tuotannon takia niitä saa lähinnä tilaustyönä.
Arabian astioita ja erikoisuuksia löytyy muuten vielä tämän viikon loppuun myös Arabian pop-up myyntipisteessä Helsingin Stockmannin Argoshallissa.

These photos actually taken a month ago while I joined a blogger evening at the Arabia factory in Helsinki. I've always loved ceramics and was happy to take part in a factory tour to see the whole product making process and to hear about the intriguing history and stories about the factory itself. The factory walls are full of stories and you can see it's history also inside the factory walls in the knowledge and skill that the years of experience has brought. Especially my camera seems to have loved the rough factory molds and the matt white unglazed dishes waiting to get to the oven.
During the tour I also admired once more the Arabia Memories dishes, that are made with old molds from the 1930's and 1940's designs. These molds were found in 2010 during a renovation work at the Arabia factory as they were hidden in a closed room in the factory attic. The molds were tested and found to be still working so they were taken into use by Arabia Pro Arte section where the items are made by hand in small production.
